Blue Oyster Mushrooms
from Turtle Springs Farms 

  

    

 

"Turtle Springs Mushrooms was established at the beginning of 2013 with the purpose of providing a source of fresh high quality food to our local communities, while also serving as the foundation of our biodynamic farm. Our small family farm has been raising small numbers of pasture-raised heritage Pork, grass fed Beef, and free range Poultry since 2000. In our quest to develop a sustainable pasture and forage-based system for these animals, Turtle Springs Mushrooms was developed with the philosophy that in order to produce a sustainable food system, the foundation starts with the soil.
Mushrooms are Mother Nature's soil creators; through their endless quest to break down organic matter into nutrient rich soil, they simultaneously produce a nutritious source of food.


We are beginning this venture focusing of the production of organically grown blue oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus Ostreatus Columbinus). This cold weather variety produces beautiful dark blue clusters, that lighten with maturity. These mushrooms are a high value source of protein, vitamin D and, even when cooked, they retain significant antioxidant properties.

Due to the meticulous nature of mushroom cultivation we have decided to focus on these blue oyster mushrooms this winter before diversifying into other species. By spring 2014, Turtle Springs Mushrooms will start the beginning phase of expanding into a more diverse gourmet and medicinal mushroom farm.

We hope you enjoy the delish taste and texture of our mushrooms and we look forward to providing a variety of fresh local food in the years to come."
