Support Colorado Growers Through CFVGA

Heading in to the shorter days and colder temperatures of winter, many of us may not be thinking immediately about all of the delicious, fresh and nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables our Colorado farmers grow in the warmer months. But, as many of you know, the colder months are when a lot of planning and preparation are done in anticipation of the coming year.

Team Future

As you know, building sustainable food systems takes a lot of work, and is much more a process and journey than it is a singular destination. I think that many of us in the community have the view that our work and our impact will continue to unfold over many years.

Summer Is Upon Us

Summer is upon us! Early sunrises, chirping birds in full leafy trees, children splashing and laughing at the pool, and, of course, all kinds of wonderful fresh produce coming off of the fields. In a few days, many of us will get together with friends and family to BBQ, relax and later enjoy fireworks as we celebrate our nation and liberty on the 4th of July.

A Bountiful Produce Season

It is with enthusiasm and excitement that I am writing this letter to you all. Enthusiasm and excitement for the emerging summer produce season, and for many exciting developments that the SOURCE team has been working on. Please read below on this newsletter to find more in depth information about great local produce that is now coming off the fields! Ample water in much of the state should allow for a bountiful produce season over the next several months, according to many of the farmers that we're working with.

Cultivation of Sustainable Food Systems

The SOURCE team and I are thrilled to share another spring time with our friends and stakeholders. We love seeing and tasting the fresh, early season produce, hearing about the blossoms on the west-slope fruit trees, getting our hands in the dirt in our gardens, and getting ready for a big local produce season. In many ways, the ecology in the garden and on the farm is a great metaphor for the business ecology that the SOURCE team is cultivating.

Taking Off & Cultivating Community

The holiday season is behind us. There's a lot of snow in the mountains. The days are getting longer as we enjoy one of the most special times of year in Colorado! In anticipation of springtime - birds chirping, fields getting planted, calves and lambs birthing, and celebration of renewal - we are in the "delicious" phase of winter. The skiing is great, chefs all over the region are planning new menus and exciting events for the seasons ahead, and farmers are gearing up for planting (or, in some cases, enjoying some much deserved respite in the warmer climates of Mexico!).

After the Floods

Over a week has now passed since the severe flooding on the Colorado Front Range. During a period of less than one week, communities in our region received more than 1.5 times the annual average precipitation. While it has been just several days, for many of our friends and families it is hard to remember what life was like before these floods.
